Round Table “AVMSD Refit or Reform? Audio Visual Media Services in the Digital Era”

On June 24th the Round Table “AVMSD Refit or Reform? Audio Visual Media Services in the Digital Era” took place. Giuseppe Abbamonte, Director of Media & Data DG CONNECT CE underlined the main changes proposed for the Directive, and Mario Mauri, Vice President of CEPI, declared himself in favor of the text that aligns with the producers’ needs. Mauri suggested focusing attention on respecting the investment quotas in favor of independent producers, the true driving force of the audiovisual industry, and said: “The proposed changes should lead to the resolution of the old-time issue of the broadcasters’ non-elusive compliance with the quotas. The Directive should introduce more powers to check on the quota compliance. Furthermore, in England, years ago the “Terms of Trade” were introduced to help independent productions in the equalization of rights. Including them into the directive would also facilitate other countries where national legislation and regulations don’t cover them”.
