Risks of the extension of the territoriality principle of Sat-CAB regulation to online and Catch-Up TV

During a recent meeting with Director Roberto Viola of DG Connect held in Rome, APT General Manager Chiara Sbarigia highlighted the risks of the extension of the territoriality principle of Sat-CAB regulation to online and Catch-Up TV. The erosion of territorial licensing would concretely affect the value of audiovisual rights, negotiations for independent producers, and the diversification of the offer. 

APT also explained the obvious difficulties for Italian television producers to access MEDIA funds. Both problems were also highlighted by other sector players who were at the meeting. Viola has announced that he will soon be writing an official letter to Italian authorities regarding the obstacles that are impeding Italian independent producers access to European funds.
